Although less frequently requested, the following might be considered also.
- A non-performance personal appearance.
An example would be to hire a celebrity to attend a private or corporate party as simply a (non-performing) guest to mingle with other guests, or to hire the celebrity to do a meet-and-greet at your party.
- A virtual performance.
A virtual performance is a live or recorded show—such as a concert, play, dance, comedy act, or other artistic presentation—that is broadcast or streamed online instead of being performed in front of a physical audience. Artists perform live from a studio, venue, or even their homes and stream the show on platforms like YouTube, Twitch, or Instagram Live. Essentially, a virtual performance brings entertainment to audiences through the internet rather than in-person venues.

Counting Crows is an American rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1991.
Counting Crows gained popularity following the release of its first album, August and Everything After (1993). With the breakthrough hit single “Mr. Jones” (1993), the album sold more than 7 million copies in the United States.
The band received two Grammy Award nominations in 1994, one for “Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal” (for “Round Here”) and one for “Best New Artist”.
The follow-up album, Recovering the Satellites, reached number one on the US Billboard 200 album chart and reached number one in several other countries. All but one of their subsequent albums reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200 list.
The band’s influences include Van Morrison, R.E.M., and Bob Dylan. The band has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.
Supporters flocked to an album that was as moody and introspective as Pearl Jam or Nirvana but was rooted in the less bruising strains of Van Morrison, the Band, and R.E.M.
Months before they released their first record, they were hand-picked by Robbie Robertson to stand in for an absent Van Morrison at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 1993.

As songwriter, decision-maker, and most visible member, Adam Duritz occupies the center of Counting Crows. Both “August and Everything After” and 1996’s “Recovering the Satellites” tap into a lifetime of Duritz’s experiences, frustrations, and observations.
After final mixes by producer Scott Litt (R.E.M., Indigo Girls) and the addition of “Raining in Baltimore,” “August and Everything After” was complete. The band hit the road to open up for a diverse group of artists, including The Cranberries, Suede, and Midnight Oil.
For their second album, Counting Crows relied on the same setup that spawned “August and Everything After.” “Recovering the Satellites,” released in October of 1996, stepped away from the derivative sounds of the first Counting Crows record.
Six of the band’s albums have charted on the Billboard 200, and four have been certified gold or platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Counting Crows have released several albums and have received various awards and nominations throughout their career. Here are some notable awards and nominations that the band has received:
- In 1994, the band won the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist for their hit single “Mr. Jones.”
- In 1995, Counting Crows received a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.

How is the fee of Counting Crows determined?
✅ Counting Crows fee determination
Counting Crows’s manager determines the artist’s concert fee (also known as a guarantee) by evaluating a combination of business, market, and logistical factors.
Here’s a breakdown of key elements considered:
1. Counting Crows’s Popularity and Demand
-
Ticket Sales History: How many tickets they’ve sold recently in the same market or similar ones.
-
Streaming & Radio Metrics: Spotify/Apple Music numbers, YouTube views, Shazam stats, radio spins.
-
Social Media Following & Engagement: Followers, reach, and how active and loyal the fan base is.
2. Market Strength
-
City or Region: Artists can command higher fees in cities where they are more popular.
-
Venue Size: Bigger venues mean more ticket sales and higher potential revenue.
-
Local Competition: Is the artist competing with other events nearby on the same date?
3. Counting Crows Touring Expenses
-
Band & Crew Payroll: Salaries, per diems, union rates.
-
Production Costs: Lights, sound, transportation, backline, hotel, security, etc.
-
Travel: Flights, buses, fuel, lodging. Fees are often higher for more distant or logistically complex locations.
4. Type of Event
-
Hard Ticket Show: The artist is the main draw; ticket sales drive revenue. The fee is based on expected gross revenue minus expenses.
-
Festival or Fair: Often pay higher flat fees as the event assumes ticket risk.
-
Corporate or Private Event: Typically, higher pricing due to exclusivity and often minimal promotional benefit.
5. Promoter Offer and Negotiation
-
The manager evaluates received offers and may negotiate elements to modify the fee or reduce expenses.
-
Promoters/Private Buyers typically present a formal offer sheet that includes:
-
Guarantee (flat fee): Minimum the artist gets paid.
-
Backend or Bonus: Extra earnings based on ticket sales after breakeven. (Typically, this is not applicable to private/corporate events.)
-
Expenses: Travel, accommodations, hospitality, etc.
6. Comparing Fees
-
Managers often compare fees of similar-level artists to stay competitive in pricing.
7. Counting Crows Routing Considerations
-
If the date fits smoothly into a larger tour routing, they might accept a lower fee.
-
If it’s a one-off or out-of-the-way show, the fee might be higher to justify the extra time and effort.
