In 2007, Drive-By Truckers backed up Bettye LaVette on her comeback album The Scene of the Crime, which was released on September 25 on Anti Records. On it, LaVette transforms country and rock songs written by Willie Nelson, Elton John, and Don Henley, among others, into mini-dramas.
On September 30, 2016, the band released American Band. A 2017 article in Australia’s Overland literary magazine suggested, with reference to American Music, that “no-one in the modern era is making stronger protest music than this Athens, Georgia band”.
On April 12, 2022, Drive-By Truckers announced their fourteenth studio album, Welcome 2 Club XIII. The same day, the title track was released as the first promotional single. The title derives from the venue where founding members Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley performed at the start of their careers.
