Molly Hatchet is an American rock band founded by guitarist Dave Hlubek in 1971 in Jacksonville, Florida. The band gained popularity and commercial success during the late 1970s and early to mid-1980s among southern rock and hard rock communities. The band also had charting singles on the US Billboard charts.
In 1980, Danny Joe Brown was replaced by Jimmy Farrar in Molly Hatchet, a band with a Southern rock sound. The band’s next album, Beatin’ the Odds, released in September 1980, marked a departure from their Southern rock sound. However, Molly Hatchet continued to tour successfully, opening for bands like AC/DC and The Outlaws. By 1981, the band had evolved into a straight-ahead rock style with a slicker production.

In 1983, the band released their fifth album, No Guts…No Glory. However, the band’s tour with Blackfoot ended when Brown, Holland, and Roland left, leaving only Hlubek, West, and Borden. Rickey Medlocke took over as front man, and Charlie Hargrett played behind Hlubek’s lead.
In 1987, Guitarist/founder Hlubek left Molly Hatchet, and Bobby Ingram replaced him. The band’s first studio album, Lightning Strikes Twice, was published in 1989. The band went on a year-long tour to support the album, playing smaller venues.
On July 8, 1990, Molly Hatchet announced their final concert and disbanded after a commercial failure. A greatest hits collection, Greatest Hits, was released in 1990, with sales reaching gold status.
In 2003, Molly Hatchet performed again, with a revised version led by Brown and Ingram.
