Tinashe, a contemporary R&B artist with significant pop appeal, initially gained recognition as an actor and model.
Tinashe Jorgensen Kachingwe, originally from Lexington, Kentucky, moved to Los Angeles in the early 2000s to pursue her acting career. Before her solo music career, she was part of the short-lived teen pop group the Stunners, who recorded for Columbia and Republic and opened for Justin Bieber. After the group disbanded in 2011, Tinashe pursued a solo career in contemporary R&B, releasing two mixtapes in 2012 and signing with RCA. In 2013, she collaborated with Jacques Greene on “Painted Faces” and released her third mixtape, “Black Water,” by year’s end.

She achieved commercial success in 2014 with the platinum Top 40 hit “2 On,” featuring producer Mustard and rapper ScHoolboy Q. This success led to three full-length projects with RCA, including “Aquarius” (2014) and “Nightride” (2016), both of which reached the Top Ten in the R&B/hip-hop charts.
Tinashe‘s RCA debut came in January 2014 with the single “2 On,” which reached number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number five on the R&B/hip-hop chart, eventually going platinum. Her debut album, “Aquarius,” was released in October and debuted at number 17, with the gold-certified “All Hands on Deck” featuring Stargate and Iggy Azalea. Following the release of the mixtapes “Amethyst” and “Nightride,” Tinashe‘s second album “Joyride” was released in April 2018, featuring guests like Offset, Ty Dolla $ign, and Future, and reached number 29 on the R&B/hip-hop chart.

She followed with the holiday EP “Comfort & Joy” in 2020. In 2021, she released the album “333,” with its 2022 deluxe edition, including the single “Naturally.” Tinashe also collaborated with Calvin Harris, Offset, and Normani on “New to You,” and appeared on tracks by Snakehips, Gryffin, Shygirl, and KYLE.
