In 2011, Vulfpeck was created with the concept of emulating the rhythm sections of old-school studio musicians of the 1960s and 1970s. The band’s name, “Vulfpeck,” was inspired by the German word “Wolfpack.”

Mit Peck
The founding members—bassist Joe Dart, keyboardist Woody Goss, former My Dear Disco guitarist Theo Katzman, and keyboardist/drummer Jack Stratton—met at the University of Michigan School of Music in Ann Arbor and formed the band in 2011. Vulfpeck released their debut EP, “Mit Peck,” by the end of that year and continued to release several EPs through 2014.
In March 2014, they conceived “Sleepify,” a clever and unconventional project featuring tracks like “Z,” “Zzzzz,” and the finale, “Zzzzzzzzzz.” The royalties from the mostly nocturnal streams of the ten silent, half-minute tracks funded a short, admission-free U.S. tour in September before the streaming site removed the album. Three months later, they released the single “Christmas in L.A.,” featuring session giant David T. Walker on guitar.
Thrill of the Arts
In 2015, Vulfpeck released their first full-length album, “Thrill of the Arts,” featuring notable guest artists, including Blake Mills. The album reached the Top 20 of the Billboard R&B Albums chart and led to a performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
In 2016, they followed up with “The Beautiful Game,” which appeared on several Billboard charts, reaching number six on the R&B Albums chart. Continuing their streak of self-releases, the band issued “Mr. Finish Line” in 2017, featuring frequent collaborators like Antwaun Stanley and Joey Dosik, as well as James Gadson, Bootsy Collins, and David T. Walker.
Their eighth studio album, “Hill Climber,” was released in December 2018. In August 2020, they released the vinyl collection “Vulf Vault 001: Antwaun Stanley.”
Vulfpeck’s discography includes six studio albums, one live album, four extended plays, seven compilation albums (with two containing all-original material), and one silent album.
