Although less frequently requested, the following might be considered, also.
- A non-performance personal appearance.
An example would be to hire a celebrity to attend a private or corporate party as simply a (non-performing) guest to mingle with other guests, or to hire the celebrity to do a meet-and-greet at your party.
- A virtual performance.
A virtual performance is a live or recorded show—such as a concert, play, dance, comedy act, or other artistic presentation—that is broadcast or streamed online instead of being performed in front of a physical audience. Artists perform live from a studio, venue, or even their homes and stream the show on platforms like YouTube, Twitch, or Instagram Live. Essentially, a virtual performance brings entertainment to audiences through the internet rather than in-person venues.

Smash Mouth is an American rock band from San Jose, California. Smash Mouth (named after Mike Ditka’s term “smash mouth football”) was formed in San Jose, California, in 1994 when boyhood friends and former band compadres Steve Harwell (vocals) and Kevin Coleman (drums) recruited Greg Camp (guitar) from a local cover band. Camp then persuaded Paul De Lisle (bass), with whom he had played in another outfit, to take a chance on the new band.

Smash Mouth first came to public prominence when “Nervous In The Alley,” a track from their first professionally produced demo tape, was played frequently during April 1996 on local rock station KOME. A support slot to No Doubt and Beck at the KOME music festival followed, along with press and record label interest.

Soon thereafter, the quartet inked a deal with Interscope Records, which released their debut, “Fush Yu Mang,” in 1997. Smash Mouth supported the album with extensive touring, including tours with Sugar Ray, Third Eye Blind and Blur, among others. That same year, Smash Mouth performed at Edgefest along with Helmet, Faith No More, Sugar Ray, Reel Big Fish, Our Lady Peace, Caroline’s Spine, Outhouse, Limp Bizkit, Artificial Joy Club, and Groove Pilots.
Despite their meteoric rise, all four members of the band had spent time in other ventures. Singer Steve Harwell came from the most unusual background, having previously led the House Of Pain-inspired hip-hop group F.O.S. (Freedom of Speech). The other members are Greg Camp (guitar), Paul De Lisle (bass) and Kevin Coleman (drums).
The far more accessible follow-up, “Astro Lounge,” broke into the US Top 10, bolstered by the Top 5 success of the highly catchy “All Star.” The band’s self-titled third album featured new drummer Michael Urbano.
In 2020, Smash Mouth played at the Buffalo Chip Music Festival alongside, Molly Hatchet, Saving Abel, Buckcherry, Drowning Pool, Lit and 38 Special.

How is the fee of Smash Mouth determined?
✅ Smash Mouth fee determination
Smash Mouth’s manager determines the artist’s concert fee (also known as a guarantee) by evaluating a combination of business, market, and logistical factors.
Here’s a breakdown of key elements considered:
1. Smash Mouth’s Popularity and Demand
-
Ticket Sales History: How many tickets they’ve sold recently in the same market or similar ones.
-
Streaming & Radio Metrics: Spotify/Apple Music numbers, YouTube views, Shazam stats, radio spins.
-
Social Media Following & Engagement: Followers, reach, and how active and loyal the fan base is.
2. Market Strength
-
City or Region: Artists can command higher fees in cities where they are more popular.
-
Venue Size: Bigger venues mean more ticket sales and higher potential revenue.
-
Local Competition: Is the artist competing with other events nearby on the same date?
3. Smash Mouth Touring Expenses
-
Band & Crew Payroll: Salaries, per diems, union rates.
-
Production Costs: Lights, sound, transportation, backline, hotel, security, etc.
-
Travel: Flights, buses, fuel, lodging. Fees are often higher for more distant or logistically complex locations.
4. Type of Event
-
Hard Ticket Show: The artist is the main draw; ticket sales drive revenue. The fee is based on expected gross revenue minus expenses.
-
Festival or Fair: Often pay higher flat fees as the event assumes ticket risk.
-
Corporate or Private Event: Typically, higher pricing due to exclusivity and often minimal promotional benefit.
5. Promoter Offer and Negotiation
-
The manager evaluates received offers and may negotiate elements to modify the fee or reduce expenses.
-
Promoters/Private Buyers typically present a formal offer sheet that includes:
-
Guarantee (flat fee): Minimum the artist gets paid.
-
Backend or Bonus: Extra earnings based on ticket sales after breakeven. (Typically, this is not applicable to private/corporate events.)
-
Expenses: Travel, accommodations, hospitality, etc.
6. Comparing Fees
-
Managers often compare fees of similar-level artists to stay competitive in pricing.
7. Smash Mouth Routing Considerations
-
If the date fits smoothly into a larger tour routing, they might accept a lower fee.
-
If it’s a one-off or out-of-the-way show, the fee might be higher to justify the extra time and effort.
