Peggy Gou, born Kim Min-ji on July 3, 1991, in Incheon, South Korea, began her musical journey with classical piano lessons at the age of eight. At 14, she moved to London to study English, returning to South Korea at 18. However, her passion for the arts led her back to London, where she pursued fashion studies at the London College of Fashion. After graduation, Gou worked as the London correspondent editor for Harper’s Bazaar Korea before relocating to Berlin, Germany, to immerse herself in its vibrant music scene.

Career Beginnings

In 2009, Gou’s interest in electronic music deepened when a friend taught her to DJ. She had her first gig at Cirque Le Soir in Soho and later secured a weekly residency at The Book Club in East London. By 2013, she began producing her own tracks using Ableton Live, marking the start of her journey as a music producer.

Rise to Prominence

Gou’s official recording debut came in January 2016 with “The Art of War Part 1” on Radio Slave’s Rekids label. She continued to release multiple EPs, including “Seek for Maktoop” and “Once,” the latter featuring her vocals for the first time. Her track “It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)” from the “Once” EP garnered significant attention, winning Best Track at the AIM Independent Music Awards and being featured on the FIFA 19 soundtrack.
