In 2014, they released their debut EP, “Pop Culture,” through Little Heart Records. This EP captured the raw intensity of their live shows and helped them build a larger fan base.
The band’s breakthrough came with the release of their debut full-length album, “Laugh Tracks,” in 2016, through Pure Noise Records. Produced by Will Putney, the album was well-received for its brutal sound and lyrical content, dealing with themes of personal struggle, mental health, and societal issues. “Laugh Tracks” included standout tracks like “Counting Worms” and “Deadringer,” which became fan favorites and staples of their live performances.
Following the release of “Laugh Tracks,” Knocked Loose embarked on extensive tours, sharing stages with bands like Every Time I Die, The Acacia Strain, and Counterparts. Their relentless touring and dynamic live shows significantly expanded their fan base and established them as a formidable force in the hardcore and metalcore scenes.
In 2019, Knocked Loose released their highly anticipated second album, “A Different Shade of Blue,” again produced by Will Putney and released through Pure Noise Records. This album showcased the band’s evolution, featuring a more refined sound while maintaining their signature aggression. It received critical acclaim and further solidified their status in the heavy music world. Tracks like “Mistakes Like Fractures” and “…And Still I Wander South” highlighted the band’s ability to blend punishing breakdowns with emotionally charged lyrics.

Knocked Loose has been described as metalcore, hardcore punk, and beatdown hardcore. New Noise, when reviewing their debut album Laugh Tracks, described the band’s sound as being akin to “Comeback Kid at their heaviest with some added doses of Slayer riffs and Code Orange-style malice”. Bryan Garris, the band’s lead vocalist, has described their sound as being “sandwiched between hardcore and metalcore”, although he has stated that the band’s intention was to produce a diverse sound that was difficult to categorize. Knocked Loose have been credited as one of the forerunners of the first-wave metalcore “revival” scene of the late 2010s, alongside bands such as Code Orange, Counterparts, Kublai Khan, Varials and Jesus Piece .
The band cited Omen, Lizzy Borden, Slayer, Judge, Hatebreed, Slipknot, Every Time I Die, Suicide Silence and Job for a Cowboy. For A Tear in the Fabric of Life, they cited death metal and Phil Spector as influences.
