Robbert van de Corput, professionally known as Hardwell, was born on January 7, 1988, in Breda, Netherlands. From a young age, he showed an interest in music, beginning with piano lessons at the age of four. By the time he was 12 years old, he was inspired by Dutch DJs like Tiësto and started exploring electronic dance music (EDM).
At 14, Hardwell signed a record deal with Digidance, leading to the release of his first official compilation, Bubbling Beats Vol. 1. This early exposure to the music industry helped him refine his style and gain experience in music production and DJing.
Breakthrough in EDM (2009-2012)
Hardwell‘s breakthrough moment came in 2009 when he released his bootleg remix of “Show Me Love vs. Be”, which became a viral hit in the EDM scene. The track garnered international attention and was played by major DJs across the globe.

Hardwell’s career skyrocketed in 2013 when he was voted #1 DJ in the world by DJ Mag—a title he would hold for two consecutive years (2013 and 2014). During this period, he performed on the biggest festival stages, including Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, and EDC Las Vegas.
His Tomorrowland 2013 set became one of the most-watched DJ sets on YouTube, accumulating millions of views and helping him build a massive fanbase.
Debut Studio Album: United We Are (2015)
In 2015, Hardwell released his first studio album, United We Are, featuring collaborations with artists like Jason Derulo, Tiësto, and Fatman Scoop. The album showcased his versatility, blending progressive house, big room, and electro elements.
To support the album, he embarked on the United We Are World Tour, selling out stadiums and arenas worldwide.
Hardwell’s Hiatus and Return (2018-2022)
Despite his immense success, Hardwell announced an indefinite hiatus from touring in September 2018, citing exhaustion and a desire to focus on personal well-being.
However, in March 2022, he made a surprise comeback at Ultra Music Festival Miami, where he closed the festival with a fresh, darker sound. This return also marked the announcement of his second studio album, Rebels Never Die.
Second Studio Album: Rebels Never Die (2022-Present)
Released in September 2022, Rebels Never Die showcased a new, harder techno-inspired sound, differentiating itself from his earlier big-room house style. The album was well-received and proved that Hardwell could successfully evolve his music.
Philanthropy and Social Impact
In addition to his music career, Hardwell has been actively involved in philanthropy. In 2017, he partnered with Guestlist4Good Social Enterprise and the NGO Magic Bus, helping to provide education for more than 100,000 underprivileged children in India through the World’s Biggest Guestlist Festival.
