Iron Maiden’s subsequent albums continued their commercial success. Piece of Mind (1983) and Powerslave (1984) were critically acclaimed and contained some of the band’s most beloved songs, such as “The Trooper” and “Aces High.” The band’s 1984-85 World Slavery Tour, which supported Powerslave, became one of the most famous tours in heavy metal history. The tour lasted over a year and included the now-legendary Live After Death album, recorded at Long Beach Arena in California.
In 1986, Iron Maiden released Somewhere in Time, which incorporated synthesizers and a more futuristic sound, showing the band’s willingness to experiment while staying true to their heavy metal roots. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988) followed, a concept album dealing with themes of prophecy, destiny, and good versus evil. By the late 1980s, tensions began to surface within the band. Guitarist Adrian Smith left in 1990 due to creative differences and was replaced by Janick Gers, who had worked with Bruce Dickinson on his solo albums. In 1990, they released No Prayer for the Dying, which marked a shift toward a more stripped-down, straightforward heavy metal sound.

In 1993, Bruce Dickinson left the band to focus on his solo career, and Iron Maiden hired Blaze Bayley, formerly of Wolfsbane, as their new lead singer.
