Silversun Pickups is an American alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2000. The band’s lineup consists of Brian Aubert (vocals, guitar), Nikki Monninger (bass, vocals), Christopher Guanlao (drums), and Joe Lester (keyboards). Brian Aubert and Nikki Monninger first met while attending a party in Los Angeles in 1994. They later reconnected and formed Silversun Pickups in 2000, recruiting Christopher Guanlao and original drummer Jack Kennedy. The band’s name is derived from a liquor store located across the street from Aubert’s house, called Silverlake Liquors, where they would often buy their supplies before rehearsals.

In 2005, Silversun Pickups released their debut EP, “Pikul,” which helped to generate buzz within the Indie rock scene. Their breakthrough came with their debut full-length album, “Carnavas,” released in 2006. The album featured the hit singles “Lazy Eye” and “Well Thought Out Twinkles,” which received significant airplay on alternative rock radio stations and garnered critical praise for their infectious melodies and ethereal guitar-driven sound.

They supported Placebo on their winter 2009 European tour. They toured with Manchester Orchestra as main support.

Following the success of “Carnavas,” Silversun Pickups released their second album, “Swoon,” in 2009. The album debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 chart and further solidified the band’s reputation for crafting anthemic, atmospheric rock songs. Tracks like “Panic Switch” and “The Royal We” became staples of alternative rock radio and earned the band a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2010.

In spring 2010, the band toured with Muse for their US tour. They toured North America again in the summer 2010 with Against Me!

Silversun Pickups continued to release acclaimed albums, including “Neck of the Woods” (2012) and “Better Nature” (2015). Their music evolved, incorporating elements of shoegaze, post-punk, and electronic influences while retaining their signature sound.
