Bun B, whose real name is Bernard James Freeman, is an American rapper and a significant figure in the Southern hip-hop scene. He was born on March 19, 1973, in Port Arthur, Texas. Bun B is best known as one half of the influential rap duo UGK (Underground Kingz), alongside the late Pimp C (Chad Butler).
Bun B grew up in Port Arthur, Texas, where he met Pimp C. The duo formed UGK in 1987 and signed with Jive Records in the early 1990s. They released their debut album, “Too Hard to Swallow,” in 1992. UGK’s music often addressed the harsh realities of life in the South, combining gritty storytelling with soulful production.
UGK released several critically acclaimed albums throughout the 1990s and 2000s, including “Super Tight” (1994), “Ridin’ Dirty” (1996), and “Dirty Money” (2001). Their collaboration with Jay-Z on the hit single “Big Pimpin'” in 1999 brought them mainstream attention.

During a hiatus caused by Pimp C’s incarceration, Bun B launched a successful solo career. His debut solo album, “Trill,” was released in 2005 and was well-received both commercially and critically.
In 2008, he released his second album, II Trill. The first single was “That’s Gangsta” featuring Jamaican American artist Sean Kingston. It debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200, selling 98,000 copies. Other singles were “Damn I’m Cold” featuring Lil Wayne and “You’re Everything” featuring Rick Ross, David Banner, DJ Corbett and 8Ball & MJG, the latter of which was dedicated to the late Pimp C.
