Fontaines D.C. is an Irish post-punk band formed in Dublin in 2014. The band’s music has been critically acclaimed. They began their career by self-releasing singles and performing live regularly.
The band’s name comes from a character in the movie The Godfather, Johnny Fontane, and they originally were called The Fontaines but added the initials “D.C.” when a band in Los Angeles had the same name.

In 2018, they released the singles “Liberty Belle”, “Chequeless Reckless”/”Boys In The Better Land” and “Too Real”. They toured the UK as the support act for fellow post-punk band Shame and released music videos directed by Hugh Mulhern.
In 2018, the band signed to Partisan Records and in 2019 released their debut album Dogrel to critical acclaim. The album was named Album of the Year by Rough Trade and BBC Radio 6 Music.
The band’s second studio album, A Hero’s Death, was released in 2020 and nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

In January 2022, the band announced their third studio album, Skinty Fia. It was released on 22 April 2022. To coincide with the album’s announcement, the band shared its lead single, “Jackie Down the Line”, with an accompanying music video.
Toronto’s The Spill Magazine praised Skinty Fia as “an important album, perhaps the most important album of the year”, hailing it as a strong contender for 2022 album of the year. In 2023, Chatten released his debut solo album, Chaos for the Fly.
Fontaines D.C. has played more than 370 concerts throughout their career. In February 2023 they performed at the Laneway Festival with others, including Finneas, Phoebe Bridgers and Haim.
